The University of Alicante Hosts the 5th Annual Meeting of the Network of Intellectual Property Academies (NIPA)

It has been an honour for the UA – Universidad de Alicante / Universitat d’Alacant and Magister Lvcentinvs to host this 5th annual meeting of the Network of Intellectual Property Academies (NIPA) with participants from across the European Union, allowing all participants to gain a deeper understanding of the latest developments at the EUIPO – European Union Intellectual Property Office and other IP registration offices, as well as to cooperate in the development of knowledge and the promotion of the value of intellectual property as a driver of innovation in Europe. This event involved active participation from directors and coordinators of the Magister Lvcentinvs. The meeting started on the first day at the EUIPO with a welcome speech by the Executive Director of the EUIPO, João Negrão, followed by a speech by the Director of the EUIPO Academy, Prof. Prof. Vladia Borissova, PhD Borissova.
This was followed by presentations by Prof. Raquel Xalabarder, Director of the European Patent Office Academy, Mr Mohamed Abderraouf Bdioui, Senior Adviser at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO), and Mr Liu Jian, Dean of the China Intellectual Property Learning Centre. The day was organised into two round tables, the first on the Use of EUIPO IP training material and courses in university curricula, chaired by Elise Barreau, from EUIPO Academy, and the second focused on the knowledge of IP and design protection in schools and faculties of design and was chaired by Nuria Martínez Soriano, from EUIPO Academy.  The second day of the event took place at the University of Alicante and was opened by the Director of Institutional Relations at the University of Alicante, Mr. Juan Llopis together with Prof. Vladia Borissova, Director of the EUIPO Academy.

Professors from different Pan European Seal programmes, together with experts from the European Commission, representatives of national offices and EUIPO experts participated in different conferences focusing on essential aspects of intellectual property education, such us IP teaching methodologies and projects and use of AI tools in teaching at universities, discussion facilitated by Alexandros Alexandrou, from EUIPO Academy, or Mediation as a subject in IP study programmes, led by Georgios Alexandros Tsaltas, from EUIPO Academy.Professor Altea Asensi Merás, co-director of the Diploma in Commercial Mediation and Intellectual Property of the University of Alicante, had the opportunity to share her experience in this field.

 

Several Magister Lvcentinvs professors had the opportunity to share their experiences in these conferences, namely professors as Pilar Montero, Pilar Iñiguez, Marina Vázquez Esteban ,Alejandro Llopis Blanque and Miguel Cano Menor.  The event was closed by Juan Suárez, Head of Learning Activities & Academic Initiatives Service of the EUIPO Academy.
