Professor Altea Asensi Speaks at CIOPORA Conference Hosted at EUIPO

participated last week as a speaker at the conference organised by CIOPORA entitled: “Protecting Innovation in Plant Breeding: An Integrated IP Approach” at the EUIPO – European Union Intellectual Property Office premises.
The event was officially opened by Mr Andrea Di Carlo, EUIPO Deputy Executive Director, and Professor Asensi joined the panel discussion entitled “IPRs in Conversation: Lessons across Rights & Sectors”. During this round table, the discussion led by Mr Viresh Ramburan of Sun World International included contributions from Francesco Mattina, President of the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO); Marcus Höpperger, Senior Director at World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, Prof. Altea Asensi and María Luisa Aranda Sales from EUIPO. This event also included the participation from Yolanda Huerta, Vice Secretary-General of International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), the coordinator of the Diploma in Plant Breeding and Distinctive Quality Signs, Professor Dr Jaume Llorca Galiana Llorca, together with leading experts from the world of IP in general and plant varieties in particular.
Professor Asensi had the opportunity to present the activities carried out as part of the Diploma in Plant Breeding and Distinctive Quality Signs, headed by Professor Esperanza Gallego, including several scientific publications (among others, Pilar Iñiguez: “The registration procedure for the granting of plant variety rights”), as well as participation in scientific research projects in the field of plant varieties.
