Magister Lvcentinvs Participates in the Design and Intellectual Property Congress Held in Elche

On October 22 and 23, the Auditorium of the Elche Bar Association brought together designers, legal professionals, companies and institutions to discuss how to protect, regulate and defend creative works in the marketplace.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Cámara Alicante for organising an event that has become an established meeting point for creativity, business and law. Our thanks also go to the Alicante Provincial Council and Alibaba Group for their confidence in this project, as well as to all the organising and collaborating institutions.

The congress was excellently inaugurated by JUAN VIDAL. At Magister Lvcentinvs, we would particularly like to highlight the participation of the four Professors of Commercial Law at the UA – University of Alicante / Universitat d’Alacant who are responsible for Magister Lvcentinvs.

Professor Esperanza Gallego participated as a speaker in the challenging panel discussion on the protection of designers as authors, between Deity and Cofemel. Together with Judge Gustavo Andrés Martín Martin and the excellent moderator Marina Gómez Calvo (President of the Intellectual Property Section of the Alicante Bar Association (ICALI)), they generated an intense and enriching debate.

Professor Pilar Montero addressed the scope of geographical indication protection in relation to product design, alongside Judge Rafael Fuentes Devesa, under the outstanding guidance of moderator José Antonio Gil Celedonio.

Professor NURIA FERNÁNDEZ PÉREZ chaired the panel discussion “AI and Intellectual Property: Who Owns the Idea?”, leading the debate between Andrés Pedreño Muñoz and Alvaro Cajal.

Professor Pilar Iñiguez led the panel on the functional aspects of design, coordinating the discussion between Raquel Sampedro Calle (OEPM ES) and Alfonso Cid (EUIPO – European Union Intellectual Property Office).

Vicente Pastor moderated the panel featuring José Antonio Moreno Campos and Juan Francisco Verdejo (Police), which examined the importance of design in the fight against counterfeiting.

We also had the opportunity to attend a session delivered by Judge Enrique García-Chamón on the case law of the EU Trademark Court.

The congress also featured outstanding presentations, including a roundtable discussion on business practices with José Luis Segura Pérez (ACTIU), Carlos García (PIKOLINOS) and Antonia Pizarro (Rolser), moderated by Enrique Martín (President of the Chamber’s Intellectual Property Committee).

Another highlight was the presentation by Victoria Gigante (Garrigues) on the do’s and don’ts of design contracts.

Finally, Victor Palau moderated a panel featuring Adrià Vila Herranz (CURIAL | Design Agency), Jose Casanova (Casanova Agency) and Pepe Crespo (Prionomy).

The congress also included two interactive workshops led by Celso Mazón Serrano (IBIDEM IP) and Pepe García Zaragoza (CuldeSac™).

Once again, this event highlights the commitment of Magister Lvcentinvs at the University of Alicante to intellectual property and to fostering dialogue between academia, European institutions and the business community.
