From the Magister Lvcentinvs programme, we would like to express our gratitude to the EUIPO – European Union Intellectual Property Office and the Executive Director, Mr. João Negrão, for closing GI´S Week in collaboration with the Magister Lvcentinvs programme, Master in Intellectual Property and Digital Innovation of the UA – Universidad de Alicante / Universitat d’Alacant. The Master´s programme is organised by the UA´s Commercial Law Department, led by Professor of Commercial Law Esperanza Gallego , Director of the scientific journal: Intellectual Property and Digital Innovation and director of the specialised degree in Geographical Indications, and by NURIA FERNÁNDEZ PÉREZ, Director of the Commercial Law Department, and Director of the Magister Lvcentinvs Master´s Degree in Trademarks and Designs.
It has been an honour to collaborate at a historic moment for the EU, marking the launch of a new Intellectual Property Right, which it´s going to be managed by EUIPO.
The event was opened by Edyta Demby-Siwek, Deputy Executive Director, EUIPO, together with the Director of the Master´s programme, Prof. Pilar Montero. The first round table was moderated by Nuria Martínez Soriano, from the EUIPO Academy, the pannelists were Ernesto Abarca and José Mariano Luján . This was followed by another presentations by Professor Marina Vázquez Esteban , and by prof. Goce Naumovski.The second round table was moderated by Prof. Pilar Iñiguez ,the pannelists were Plamena Georgieva , from the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, Professor Pilar MONTERO and Judge Gustavo Andrés Martín Martin. We also had the opportunity to hear the views of some pioneering producers in the historic demand for specific protection for unique artisanal and industrial products, such as Albacete knives. This product was represented by Maria Del Pilar Giménez García, a long-standing producer of Albacete cutlery and President of Asociación de Cuchillería y Afines, APRECU, the Albacete Cutlery Association, as well as by Maria José Palacios González. This conference was led by Ester Olivas Cáceres, Director General of Entrepreneurship and Internationalisation of the Valencian Regional Government. Finally, Professor Altea Asensi Merás,delivered a presentation on this unique specialisation offered by the University of Alicante, supported by all the key institutions and actors in the ecosystem of geographical indications and other quality protection systems. The closing ceremony of this event was led by the Director of the EUIPO Academy, Professor Prof. Vladia Borissova, PhD , together with Professor Pilar MONTERO. This special celebration has been an important step in our permanent commitment to providing specialised IP and Digital Innovation education oriented to the different needs of the stakeholders of intellectual property rights.
